ANigerian couple sent their son to school in the United Kingdom to study for his Advanced Level Examinations (G.C.E.). The boy was put in the school’s boarding house. He behaved so badly that his tutors gazed at him in unbelief. He must have convinced himself that the world owed him a living. The tutors wrote in his report “He needs a shock to come to terms with reality.” His parents repatriated him and put him in a school where the harsh conditions of living shocked him into his senses. He squared up his studies and succeeded. His British tutors “understood” him. Parents need to study their children closely and try to understand why they behave in certain ways. Sometimes they need expert advice. A parent who wondered why her child behaved strangely was told by a Paediatrician “You need to see a Neurologist”. The Neurologist after close examination concluded “This child suffered brain injury at birth”. The mother was then given tips on how to handle the child. In today’s passage Jesus reminded his parents of the purpose of his mission to the world. The parents understood him and did not “disturb” him in his God-given assignment.
